TREASURER

I was born and raised in our beautiful town of Campbell River. After graduating high school I attended the University of Victoria where I graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Economics and then worked towards obtaining my CA designation, which I completed in 2006. I returned to Campbell River in 2009 where I continued to work in public practice as a manager of a great local firm. In late 2021 I left public practice in order to be more involved in our family business and spend more time with our three kids.
I have been on the Board of the Campbell River & District Food Bank since 2016 and as Treasurer since 2017. I am honoured to be part of such a wonderful organization and am looking forward to seeing what the future holds!

DIRECTOR

  • I spent 15 years as a member of a multidisciplinary team at Manitoba's Public Interest Law Centre. The Centre conducted public interest litigation on behalf of consumers, seniors, First Nations, and disability groups. My area was poverty, specializing in welfare issues, landlord and tenant matters and the rights of the disabled. I was also responsible for the production of written self help / advocacy materials relating to the rights of tenants and social assistance recipients.
  • At Manitoba Ombudsman I worked as an investigator, specializing in complaint investigations regarding municipal administration. I later served as Manager of Systemic Investigations, Manager of Whistleblower Investigations, and, for the three years immediately to retirement as Acting Ombudsman for Province of Manitoba.
  • While at Manitoba Ombudsman I was primarily responsible for the production of Understanding Fairness, a guide for municipal decision makers. I have participated in systemic reviews of Manitoba's child welfare system, and it's provincial social assistance program.
  • I have taught classes in advocacy, and in administrative investigations, and lectured on poverty from three different perspectives; as someone raised in poverty, as an advocate for people living in poverty, and as a systemic investigator examining government programs intended to address poverty.
  • I have previous board experience with the Canadian Mental Health Association, both the Winnipeg Region and the Manitoba Division. I have also worked with fledgling community groups, with an anti-poverty focus, on organizational and foundational issues such as board structure and governance.

Originally from Scotland, I moved to Canada 16 years ago. Most of that time was spent in Ontario, with a year in Newfoundland and several months in Edmonton. My background is in the hotel industry, primarily with Marriott and Hilton, and I’m now proud to serve as General Manager of Natural Pacific Resort in Campbell River. I was thrilled to relocate to this beautiful area in October of last year.

Over the years, I’ve served on the Board of Directors for various tourism organizations and charitable causes. I also volunteer twice a week as a cook at the community kitchen.

I’m a proud boomerang resident of Campbell River—born and raised here, I ventured away for university at UBC and spent time living in Vancouver and Calgary before returning home in 2018. Today, I live here with my husband Steven and our two wonderful kids. Professionally, I’ve had the privilege of working with UBC, NBC Olympics, and for the past 11 years, with a Calgary-
based advertising agency, Trigger, where I lead marketing, communications, and branding projects for a range of clients. As a proud member of the Daybreak Rotary Club, I’m excited to bring my energy and project management experience to the Board.
